Nacht/Vlieland | Night/Vlieland

The work Night/Vlieland is a photographic research of one of the darkest places in The Netherlands. Starting questions were: How to visualize the experience of complete darkness? How to involve the past in work that shows a current reality?

All the photographs were made during a five days stay on Vlieland. They visualize one of the darkest places in one of the most illuminated counties in the world. Using material from the local archive of the island, the installation combines historical indications with the mysterious of the nocturnal site. What is the effect of picturing a picture, or a text, which indicates a past event? How does this achieve meaning assembling current documentation?

The work is conceived for the exhibition Nachtwerk (Nightwork)
